We are partnering with a leading manufacturer of advanced CNC grinding systems to identify their next Director of R&D and Engineering. This is a senior-level opportunity to shape the future of cutting-edge technology within the aerospace, defense, and industrial machinery sectors.
The Role
As Director of R&D and Engineering, you will take ownership of engineering strategy and execution, driving innovation while ensuring excellence in design, development, and delivery. This role offers the chance to lead a highly skilled engineering team and guide projects from concept through to customer delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of CNC grinding machines, covering mechanical, structural, spindle, bearing, and software integration.
- Champion innovation, spearheading R&D initiatives that improve machine performance, stability, and efficiency.
- Oversee CAD modeling, assemblies, BOMs, and simulations using SolidWorks, ensuring robust engineering output.
- Manage prototyping, testing, and iterative product improvements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Sales, Operations, vendors, and customers to ensure full system integration.
- Provide technical support during assembly, commissioning, and field service.
- Mentor and develop engineering talent, fostering a high-performance culture.
- Drive continuous improvement in performance, cost reduction, and workflows.
What We’re Looking For
- 8 years’ experience in machine design, ideally within CNC grinding or high-precision machinery.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred).
- Strong technical expertise in SolidWorks (3D/assemblies/BOM) and FEA.
- Hands-on knowledge of grinding technology and manufacturing methods.
- Proven leadership and mentoring experience.
- Excellent technical judgment, communication, and problem-solving skills.
